The six-year Laker coach called it quits on Sunday evening in an announcement to his players.
“The reason for me stepping down as the head coach centers around one key factor which is time,” typed Start in his announcement on social media, alluding to his desire to spend more time with his children. “The game of football is a year round commitment and at this point I feel it is a commitment I cannot continue to make.”
Start, who has coached for the past 19 years at various high schools around the country, finished with a 24-33 record during his six years at Spring Lake. His best season being the 2021 campaign, finishing with a 6-4 record.
After suffering two dismal seasons to begin his tenure at Spring Lake, Start led the Lakers to four consecutive playoff berths.
