WHITE CLOUD — Jumping out to a quick lead, the Mason County Central boys’ basketball team cruised to a 57-33 non-conference win over White Cloud on the road Tuesday night.

It was the Spartans’ first win of the season after back-to-back losses, while White Cloud saw its two-game winning streak halted.

The Spartans’ zone defense was extremely effective, in addition to being very active, as they forced White Cloud into committing 29 turnovers.

“We had really good play by all the guys tonight,” Spartan head coach Tim Genson said.

Mason County scored in double figures in each of the four quarters, while holding White Cloud to six digits in three out of the four periods.

It was pretty much all Spartans after the first half. The Spartans outscored White Cloud, 12-3 in the first quarter and 12-6 in the second as they built a 24-9 halftime lead.

The Spartans had a 12-8 advantage in the third quarter, and went into the fourth and final period holding a commanding 23-point lead, 40-17. White Cloud outscored the Spartans, 16-14 in the final eight minutes.

Will Chye fired in 22 points, grabbed six rebounds and dished out five assists to lead the Spartans. Jayden Perrone scored 13 points, hauled down seven rebounds and picked off seven steals.

Taylor Bode scored 12 points for White Cloud.

Mason County Central is at home Thursday for a showdown with Western Michigan Conference co-leader Montague.
