PENTWATER — Orchard View held on to a slim lead for most of the game, and wound up turning back Pentwater, 40-34 in a non-conference girls basketball game at Pentwater Tuesday night.

The Cardinals took a slim 8-7 lead at the end of the first quarter. After each team scored nine points in the second period, the Cardinals carried a 17-16 edge into the half.

Orchard View’s scoring picked up in the third period, as the Cardinals outscored the Falcons, 15-8 and went into the final period with a 32-24 lead. Pentwater had a 10-8 edge in the fourth period, but it was not enough.

Grace Gardner led the Cardinals in scoring with 15 points, followed by Elizabeth Estelle with eight points, and Hikari Katsuzawa with six.

Mikaylyn Kenney paced the Falcons with 11 points, Jocelyn Richison added 10 and Haidyn Adams tossed in six.

Pentwater, which dropped to 1-4 overall, returns to Western Michigan D League action with a game at Bear Lake on Friday night. The Cardinals won for the first time in five games, and is next at Muskegon Catholic Central on Friday night.
