LANSING—The Muskegon Community College Women’s basketball team traveled to Lansing Community College on Saturday afternoon and returned home with a 75-45 conference win over the Stars.

The Jayhawks jumped out to a strong start after coming off back-to-back 2-point losses.

MCC ended up in front of the Stars 18-11 after the first ten minutes of play.

The Jayhawks would extend that lead to a more comfortable margin of 39-16 by the halftime break, outscoring Lansing Community College 21-5 in the second stanza.

Muskegon Community College was outscored in the third quarter by the Stars 18-15 but didn’t back down putting up another 21 points to the Stars 11 in the fourth quarter.

With the win the Jayhawks snap a two game skid in the conference.

It was a great bounce back win for us,” said MCC head coach Jason Cooper. “We had great improvement and some more to go, but I am happy with our performance tonight.”

Julia Tierman (Mona Shores) led the Jayhawk offensive attack with a team high 18 points, to go along with 6 rebounds, while dishing out 6 assists and coming up with 5 steals.

Three other Jayhawks hit for double digits including Mariah Pringle (Brethren) with 16 points and hauling down a team leading 11 rebounds. Suzan Sisman (Marselisborg) tossed in 10 points to go with 4 assists and Trina Lewis (Reeths-Puffer) also chipped in with 10 points while grabbing 6 rebounds.

The Jayhawks improve to 10-3 overall and are 4-2 in the Michigan Community College Athletic Association. MCC will take the court again on Monday, January 24 when they host Kalamazoo Valley Community College at 5:30 pm.
