NORTH MUSKEGON — Looking to halt a two-game losing streak, the North Muskegon girls basketball team ran into a fired up Manistee team at home Tuesday night and dropped a 41-21 non-conference loss.

It was a tight first half. The Norsemen forged a narrow 9-6 lead after the first quarter, but the Chippewas gained the upperhand in the second, 6-5 as North Muskegon led, 15-14 at the half.

But things fell apart for the Norsemen in the second half, as the Chippewas outscored them 9-5 in the third period for a 34-20 lead and finished it off with a 20-2 fourth period.

Jena Francis scored five points to lead the Norsemen, while Molly Stewart and Georgia Skujins added four apiece. Skujins also had six rebounds.

Libby McCarthy paced Manistee wtih 14 points and Ashtyn Janis added seven.

The Norsemen fell to 1-5 overall with their fourth straight loss and now face a tough challenge when they play their third straight home game against West Michigan Conference co-leader Hart on Thursday night looking for their first league win.
