SHELBY — The Shelby girls basketball team ended its three-game losing streak Thursday night with a 44-21 win over Ravenna in a West Michigan Conference matchup.

It was a defensive battle in the first quarter, as neither team could produce much offense with the Bulldogs edging into a 5-2 lead at the horn.

The Tigers took command in the second period, erasing their early deficit with a big 16-3 advantage and bounced into the half with a 18-8 lead.

Shelby kept its foot on the gas in the third quarter with a 21-2 scoring burst that pushed the Lady Tigers out to a 39-10 lead entering the fourth quarter. Ravenna had an 11-5 edge in the final eight minutes.

Kendall Zoulek scored 21 points to lead the Tigers, while Molli Schultz added 10. Aubrey Klotz dished out four assists and Ella Olmstead distributed three assists and had two blocked shots.

Shelby lifted its record to 10-8 overall and 6-6 in the conference. The Tigers are scheduled to see action again Tuesday, Feb. 22 at Whitehall.

Ravenna fell to 5-14 overall and 2-11 in the conference. The Bulldogs next see action on Tuesday, Feb. 22 hosting Montague.
