MUSKEGON — Muskegon Community College’s men’s basketball team has been awarded the 15th seed in the upcoming National Junior College Association 2022 Division II men’s basketball championship tournament.

The tournament will be played March 15-19 at Mary Miller Center in Danville, IL. The seeds were announced by the NJCAA on Tuesday afternoon.

It’s the Jayhawk men’s second trip to the nationals in three years. The Jayhawks were seeded third in 2019-20, but the tournament was cancelled because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Before that, the Jayhawks last played in a national tournament during the 1989-90 season.

MCC improved to 19-8 on the season after winning the Great Lakes A District title, and will open play at 2 p.m. Tuesday, March 15 against second seeded Davidson-Davie (NC), which is 30-2 and won the South Atlantic A District.

The winner of that game is scheduled to meet the Henry Ford CC/Niagra County (NY) winner at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, March 16.

Semifinals are scheduled for Friday, March 18 with the championship game slated for Saturday, March 19.

“We are excited for the opportunity, excited about the seeding, and looking forward to getting to work,” said Jayhawks head coach Jimmy Booth.

SAU Tech (AR) 19-10, 12. Scottsdale (AZ) 19-11, 13. Parkland (IL) 20-7, 14. Dakota County Tech (MN) 18-8, 15. Muskegon Community College (MI) 19-8 and 16. Florida Gateway College (FL) 17-9.
