MARION — Mason County Eastern’s girls basketball team saw its season come to an end Wednesday night with a 53-21 loss to McBain Northern Michigan Christian in the MSHAA Division 4 district semifinals at Marion.
The Cardinals struggled out of the gate offensively, and were outscored by six points, 10-4 in the first quarter. The Comets went on a 21-3 tear in the second quarter and sent the Cardinals into a 31-7 hole at the half.
Eastern picked up its scoring in the third period, but was still outscored, 14-10 and headed into the fourth quarter looking at a 45-17 deficit. Each team scored eight points in the final eight minutes.
Corinna Hernandez led the Cardinals in scoring with nine points, Deanna Codman contributed five Janessa Alvesteffer added four.
Eastern finished the year with a 10-11 record.
