WALKERVILLE — Pitching ruled the day for the Mason County Eastern baseball team Monday afternoon in a pair of games against fellow Western Michigan D League member Walkerville on the road.

The Cardinals needed just six total innings to dispatch the Wildcats, rolling to a convincing 16-1 victory in the first game and then turned around and ripped the Wildcats, 15-0 in the nightcap.

It raised the Cardinals’ record to 2-2 on the season.

In the first game, senior Wyatt Crawford spun a masterful two-hitter and gave up just the single run. He didn’t walk a batter, and finished with eight strike outs in a game that went just three innings.

Pacing the hitting attack was James Drake, who went 2-for-2 with a walk and was hit by a pitch for four total bases, scoring three runs.

Drake took the bump for the Cardinals in the second game and while he walked four batters, he gave up only one hit and struck out 12.

Meanwhile at the plate it was Eli Shoup swinging the hot bat, going 3-for-4 with a run scored. Keegan Nelson was 2-for-2 with a double and a walk, and scored twice..

Hitting for himself, Drake matched his performance from Game 1 with another 2-for-2 game at the plate with a triple and two runs scored.
