MUSKEGON — Overlooking the frigid temperatures, the Oakridge baseball team hosted Sault Ste. Marie in a non-conference doubleheader Saturday morning, and finished with a split.

The Eagles won the first game, 8-3 but lost the nightcap, 3-2.

In game one, the Eagles found themselves trailing, 3-2 in the third inning. But, they rallied with three runs in the fourth and another three in the fifth to register their first win of the season.

Garrett Wever picked up the win on the mound for the Eagles.

Leading the way at the plate for the Eagles were Corey Vanderputte with a two-run home run, while Wever and Matt Danicek, both went 2-for-4. Danicek drove in two runs, while Wever had one run batted in. Ryan Cribbins and Vanderputte scored two runs apiece.

The Eagles’ bats went cold in the nightcap as the temperature dropped. Vanderputte and Evan Miller scored the only runs for Oakridge.

Oakridge had only three hits for the game.
