MUSKEGON — Mona Shores’ girls softball team dropped a non-conference doubleheader to East Kentwood, 16-9 and 12-5 at home Saturday.

The Sailors were betrayed by some defensive struggles in the first game, which negated an 11-hit attack.

Kristen Hylland took the circle in the opener and was saddled with the loss, allowing only four earned runs and finishing with four strike outs.

Abbie Critchett paced the Sailor offense with three hits while Elizabeth Savacool, Macey Spaniola and Amilia Pena all finished with two hits apiece.

Mona Shores had more problems on defense in the nightcap. Mia Geoghan took the loss in the circle, being touched for seven earned runs and striking out two.

Spaniola went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead the Sailors offensively.
