LUDINGTON — Ludington’s girls volleyball team defeated Montague in four tough sets Tuesday night, 25-15, 22-25, 25-15 and 25-22.

“I think we were pretty anxious going into this match,” said Ludington coach Liz Holden. “I used to coach at Montague, and it’s where I played. It’s hard to go up against a bunch of girls I used to work with every day. We came out hard the first set and were ready to play. We underestimated their defense a bit and didn’t have the best serve receive in the second set.”

But, the Orioles tightened things up in the third set and came out hard again in the fourth set.

Holden said the Orioles had a lot of great swings, but the Wildcats countered that with a number of great digs.

“They were a good opponent, but ultimately I’m proud of the girls for pushing through for the win,” Holden added. “Both teams worked really hard right to the end.”

Maddy Vaara had another outstanding night with 21 kills, four aces, seven digs and two blocks. Karli Mesyar had 13 digs, one ace and one assist. Jordyn Anderson had 34 assists, four digs, one kill, one ace and three blocks.  Keelyn Laird was tough at the net with 16 kills, while she added six digs, three blocks, one assist and one ace.   Ashley McPike had four blocks, one kill and two dogs. Olivia Lynn had one block and three kills.  Mia Voss had four aces, one block and three kills while Mia Pung contributed nine digs.

Leaders for the Wildcats were Alissa Wynn with three service aces, Jordan Netcott with two and Laura Borras one. Anastasia Trevino had 15 kills, Britta Johnson 13 and Borras seven. Jaelyn Sundberg had 43 assists. Wynn had 15 digs, Borras 13, Netcott eight, Sundberg seven and Johnson five.
