GRANDVILLE–Grandville pulled away from Grand Haven in the second half, cruising to a 53-29 victory.

In the first quarter, Grandville scored on a 1-yard run. Grand Haven came right back as Lance Poole scored on a 3-yard touchdown run. A 68-yard pass left Grandville up 14-7 at the end of the first quarter.

Poole found the endzone in the second quarter on a 1-yard touchdown plunge. But, the Bulldogs answered with a 22-yard touchdown. Grandville enjoyed a 22-14 halftime lead.

To start the second half, Xzavier Rodriguez found the endzone on a 1-yard touchdown run to pull the Bucs to within a point at 22-21.

Grandville started to pull away in the third with two consecutive scores and led 38-21 at the end of the quarter.

Rodriguez threw a 70-yard touchdown to William Korenstra in for Grand Haven’s second-half points.

Rodriguez completed 16-of-22 passes for 252 yards, one touchdown and one interception. The sophomore quarterback also was the leading rusher with 19 carries for 113 yards and a touchdown.

Poole added 13 carries for 51 yards and two touchdowns. He added five receptions for 108 yards. Korenstra added four catches for 95 yards and a touchdown.

Logan Minier and Dylan Cummings led the defense with 5.5 tackles each. Keagan Hunt added 4.5 tackles and Bode Wilson made 3.5 tackles and recovered a fumble.

Grand Haven (1-7, 0-6) travels to Hudsonville for the season finale next Friday.
