LUDINGTON — Hart’s girls basketball team started off the season in impressive fashion with a heart stopping 43-42 non-conference overtime victory over Ludington on Tuesday night.
Both teams got off to slow starts as they seemed to be a bit tentative. The Orioles took a narrow 9-6 lead at the end of the first quarter. Ludington still led, 16-12, at the half.
Each team scored 13 points in the third quarter, which left the Orioles holding a 29-25 edge going into the fourth. Hart outscored Ludington, 17-13 in the fourth quarter to force overtime, and had 1-0 edge in the extra session on a free throw by Abby Hicks.
Addi Hovey scored a game-high 17 points for the Pirates and she also grabbed eight rebounds. Aspen Boutell added 12 points, five rebounds, five steals and three assists. Hicks and Mariana VanAgtmael chipped in with seven points each. Hicks also had 10 rebounds and three assists.
Olivia Lynn paced the Orioles (0-1) with 15 points, Keelyn Laird added eight while Annie Kline and Elianna Jeruzal finished with five apiece.
The Pirates faces off against West Michigan Conference Rivers Division rival Shelby on the road Friday night.
Ludington begins West Michigan Conference Lakes Division play at home Friday night against Fremont.
