WHITE HALL — Ludington’s girls basketball team had a tremendous defensive effort in Friday night’s Western Michigan Conference Lakes Division game at Whitehall and rolled to a 29-7 victory.

The Orioles held the Vikings to just two field goals for the game, and it permitted them to weather a bad middle two quarters when they scored only eight points.
 
Ludington pitched a shutout in the first quarter, outscoring the Vikings, 11-0. But the Orioles scored only three points in the second and led, 14-1 at the half. It was 19-5 at the end of three.
 
Keelyn Laird scored nine points to lead the Orioles, followed by Olivia Lynn with seven, Jennah Skiba five, Annie Kline and Emma McKinley three each and Elianna Jeruzal two.
 
The Orioles improved to 5-2 overall and 4-0 in the conference with its second straight win. Ludington next plays at Mason County Central in its annual rivalry game with the Spartans next Monday.
 
Whitehall fell below .500 at 2-3 overall and 1-2 in the conference. The Vikings step out of the conference for a game at Fruitport on Tuesday.
