Muskegon Heights was on the losing end of an 86-35 boys basketball matchup with Kalamazoo Phoenix on Friday.

The Tigers fell behind quickly, trailing 36-11 after the first quarter.

Kalamazoo’s Jhymeir Wilkins caught fire with four 3-pointers in the first eight minutes to finish with 19 points.

Muskegon Heights continued to struggle as it trailed 55-20 by halftime and 79-24 after the third.

DaCarri Moore led the Tigers with eight points and Jamarion Taylor scored seven.

The Tigers’ scoring leader, Jaquan Mathews, was held to five points in the loss.

While it has been a struggled to find wins this season, Mathews has been the bright spot for the Tigers. The guard scored 40 points in Muskegon Heights’ 69-64 loss to West Michigan Aviation on Tuesday.

Mathews’ season high was 32 points and has three 20-plus games this season.

Muskegon Heights will lace back up on Monday against North Muskegon. The Tigers face Muskegon Catholic on Friday, Jan. 27.
