PENTWATER — Pentwater’s boys basketball team took on West Michigan D League leader Baldwin for Homecoming on Friday night and fell short, 82-62.
“It was a defensive puzzle to match the excellent offense of the Panthers,” said Pentwater coach Ashley Lubera. “We played them stride for stride in the first quarter, but then tired in the second. We adjusted our defense for the fifth time coming out for the second half and found something that slowed the Panthers down.”
Pentwater trailed by only five, 17-12, at the end of the first and then was outscored, 24-10, in the second period and went into halftime facing a 38-22 deficit.
The Falcons enjoyed their best offensive production in the third quarter with 18 points, but the Panthers scored 24 to make it a 62-40 game. Baldwin, ranked No. 10 in the latest Associated Press high school rankings, outscored Penwater 27-22 in the final quarter.
Will Werkema-Grondsma recorded a double-double for the Falcons with 18 points and 12 rebounds. Mikey Carlson contributed 16 points. Kaleb Brown contributed nine points and Trey Johnson five.
Pentwater (3-10, 3-6) will play Wednesday night at Walkerville.
