RAVENNA — A second-quarter surge helped lift the Ravenna Bulldogs to a 50-28 victory over the North Muskegon Norse.

The West Michigan Conference Rivers Division game was played at Ravenna.

North Muskegon led 11-7 after one quarter, but could muster just two points in the second quarter and fell behind 22-13 at the half. Ravenna outscored North Muskegon 28-15 in the second half.

“We played well during the first quarter with our defense getting some stops and our offense getting open shots,” NM coach Sarah Knuth said. “But, Ravenna took advantage of our turnovers in the second quarter by turning them into layups.”

Emma Gillard led Ravenna (9-13, 4-8) with 20 points. Addi Gillard added eight points.

North Muskegon (5-15, 4-8) was led by Georgia Skujins with seven points and four rebounds. Marilyn Gaston had six points, two blocks and three rebounds.

“We kept up our effort in the physical game, but we couldn’t stop Emma Gillard or keep Ravenna off the boards like we needed to,” Knuth said. “Credit goes to Ravenna. They made their shots and won the battle of the boards.”
