The Spring Lake girls’ basketball struggled early on and dropped a 58-21 decision to Grand Rapids West Catholic in an O-K Blue clash on Friday night.

The game was a battle of state-ranked teams in Division 2.

Spring Lake trailed 21-8 at the end of the opening quarter and 35-10 at halftime.

The Lakers played their best basketball during the third quarter, only getting outscored by a 9-7 margin, but West Catholic ended the game on a 14-4 run.

Tess Britt led Spring Lake with seven points and seven rebounds, while Ella Andree and Alexa Carter each scored four points.

The Lakers are now 6-2 overall, 2-1 in conference play. They will host Hamilton next on Tuesday night.
