FRUITPORT – Fruitport Calvary Christian dropped their first Alliance League game of the season despite strong efforts by Quinn Swanson and Bradley Richards on Friday.

Swanson racked up 26 points, while Richards had 18 points and 14 rebounds in a tight 56-53 loss to Grand River Prep.

The action was back and forth as the lead was exchanged multiple times. The Eagles were down 32-31 at halftime, but managed to pull ahead in the third quarter and led, 45-41.

The Eagles had last-minute opportunities that fell short.

“The coaches were pleased with our boys’ preparation and how hard they played,” said Calvary Christian coach Brad Richards. “However, we aren’t really into moral victories, it was a disappointing finish to the game.”

Sam Zelenka added 10 assists for the Eagles.

Calvary Christian (6-4, 0-1) will be at Shelby on Monday.
