The Mona Shores girls’ basketball team jumped out to a fast start and never looked back on Friday night in their O-K Green game.

The Sailors jumped out to a 20-3 first-quarter lead and surged to a 53-32 win over Grand Rapids Union.

Mona Shores led 31-7 at halftime and 45-22 through three quarters before both teams scored eight points during the final quarter.

The Sailors were paced by Katie Phillips with 13 points, while Tia Norman scored nine and Laynie Russell had eight.

Khaleeya Cook and Braylin Meyers scored six and five points, respectively, for Mona Shores.

The Sailors are now 6-6 overall, 2-3 in the league.
