KENTWOOD — Mona Shores won the opener and East Kentwood the nightcap in a softball doubleheader on Saturday.
 
The Sailors won the first game, 5-3, on the strength of Grace Michelli, who earned the victory on the mound. She allowed six hits, no walks and struck out three. The leading hitters were Michelli, Maggie McCarthy and Maddy Russell with two hits each.
 
The nightcap as a whole different story as East Kentwood posted a 16-3 victory.
 
Kristen Hylland took the loss on the mound. McCarthy blasted a solo home run among her two hits.
 
Mona Shores is now 6-7, 3-1 in the conference.
