FREMONT — After earning a tight win in the Division 2 girls softball district semifinal game Saturday, the Oakridge Eagles cruised to a 26-4 victory in five innings over Whitehall in the championship game in Fremont.

Kaelin Jozsa earned the win in the pitcher’s circle, allowing five hits and one strikeout.

The Eagles pounded out a total of 24 hits. Rylee Vanderputte led the way, clouting a home run, double and single for six runs batted in.

Brenna Cabrera rapped out four singles and drove in four runs, Madi Clark also had four singles and collected three RBI, Amelia Luft finished with two singles and Jozsa ripped her school-record 15th home run. Ahria Doornbos also had four hits, two of which were doubles, and drove in four runs.

Oakridge scored single runs in the fifth and sixth innings to pull out a 5-3 victory over Grant in the semifinals.

The Eagles put up two runs in the bottom of the first and extended their lead to 3-0 into the fifth, tallied another run in the sixth.

Grant finally got on the board in the top of the sixth with three runs to forge a 3-3 tie. But the Eagles won it with a run in the bottom half.

Kylee Willea was the winning pitcher for the Eagles. She went the distance and allowed just three hits while striking out 11 in seven innings.

Emma Bliss took the loss for the Tigers. She threw six innings and gave up six hits, four walks and struck out six.

Leading hitters for the Eagles were Madi Clark, who had two singles and drove in a run, Rylee Vanderputte, who also had two hits and one run batted in and Andrea Romero who had a single and one RBI.

“Both pitchers kept the other team off balance,” said Eagles coach Joe Coletta. “Kylee was exceptional. She didn’t walk a batter and didn’t face more than three batters in just three innings. Grant is a good team that has had a nice season. They battled us from start to finish. We were able to capitalize on a few things and that was the difference in the game.”

Oakridge moved its record to 29-9 on the season and next faces Coopersville in the Spring Lake regional on Saturday.
