HUDSONVILLE –The Fruitport Calvary Christian volleyball team opened the season at the WMOVA Officials for Kids Tournament on Saturday.

The Eagles started slow, but were competitive throughout and made it to the Silver Bracket finals where they fell to Lansing Christian (20-25, 18-25).

The Eagles were 1-2 in pool play with tough losses to Lansing Christian (22-25, 26-27) and Kalamazoo Premiere (22-25, 14-25). The victory came in a battle against Kelloggsville (25-22, 25-23).

After advancing in the Silver Bracket, the Eagles took down Holland Black River (25-13, 22-25, 15-12) and Rivertown Christian (26-24, 25-22) in the semifinal round.

Ella Dykman led the Eagles with 43 kills, 40 digs, 15 aces and eight blocks. Brooke Trumbull had 26 digs, nine aces, eight kills and a block while Marissa Tyler added 86 assists, 21 digs and a block.

Fruitport Calvary Christian (3-3) will return on Tuesday, Sept. 12 at Byron Center Zion Christian.
