GRANDVILLE – The Mona Shores co-op swim and dive team had a tough tri-meet with rough swims and disqualifications on Tuesday.

The Turtles fell to Grandville (152-44) and Spring Lake (130-65).

“We will take our bumps and bruises from this meet and learn from them,” said Turtles’ coach Mick Homan. “Every failure is one step closer to success.”

Susie Van Baale earned a second-place finish in the 100 breast (1:17.41) and fifth place in the 200IM (2:49.63). Marilyn Gaston posted a second-place finish in the 100 back (1:11.48) and a fifth-place finish in the 100 free (1:02.27).

Hollen Emmick claimed a third-place spot in the 1-meter dive with a personal best finish of 177.95 points. Sydney Sytsema finished in third place in the 50 free (27.37).

Alexis Bazzett recorded personal best swims in the 50 breast (48.77), 200 free (2:58.25) and 500 free (8:06.16). 

The 200-free relay team of Claire Bradley (30.10), Bazzett (35.81), Rowynn Statley (39.49) and Emmick (33.00) had a personal best performance. 

Sherry Jiang had personal bests in the 50 free (41.13) and the 100 free (1:36.51).

The Turtles (1-5) will travel to Hamilton on Tuesday, Sept.12.
