REED CITY — Karli Mesyar had a big game defensively and Maddy Vaara was the big gun on offense as the Ludington girls’ volleyball team swept all six of its matches Saturday.

That result earned the Orioles the title in the Reed City Invitational.

“I couldn’t be happier,” said Orioles head coach Liz Holden. “I saw confidence in the girls I have been waiting to see this season. They don’t seem to realize how talented they really are. I am proud of how well they pulled together and persevered.”

The Orioles dispatched Evart (25-8, 25-6), Kent City (25-10, 25-10) and Traverse City Christian (25-11, 25-11) before moving on to bracket play where they split with Comstock Park (25-27, 25-23), took down Gaylord (25-17, 25-22) and knocked off Petoskey (25-11, 22-25, 15-11).

Mesyar finished the day with 49 digs along with 12 assists, six aces and two kills. Vaara had 78 kills and also had 27 digs, eight blocks and one assist.
