WHITEHALL – The Reeths-Puffer Rockets finished second to Lowell in Wednesday’s Whitehall Invitational at White Lake Golf Course.

Lowell finished first with a 340, followed by the Rockets with 363 and Whitehall at 369.

Other area teams included Fremont in fifth place at 384, followed by Ludington (388), Montague (405), North Muskegon (420), Oakridge (423) and Holton (439). Reeths-Puffer’s Paige Anderson was the medalist with a 74. Ludington’s Emma McKinley was second at 78 and Whitehall’s Ava Garcia finished fourth with an 82.

Other top finishers among area golfers included Reeths-Puffer’s Rowan Bluhm, who finished eighth at 87 and Sophia McCollum with an 89. Fremont’s Lena Hudson was 11th with a 90, teammate Lauren Roossink was 13th at 91 and Whitehall’s Allie Van Antwerp was 14th at 92. Mylee Mineni from Fruitport rounded out the top 15 with a 94.

The runner-up finish was a big improvement over last year’s result.

“What a difference a year makes,” Reeths-Puffer coach Matt Pallett said. “Last year, we finished last or toward the bottom of the pack of every tournament. This year we are competing for trophies. This is our second trophy this year and the girls are hungry for more.”

Reeths-Puffer returns to action Wednesday in the OK-Green Jamboree at Winding Creek.
