ALLENDALE – A year ago, the Reeths-Puffer Rocket girls’ golf team traveled to the Pupel Invitational and finished last.

This time around, the Rockets turned in a stellar performance and finished fourth out of 14 teams at The Meadows on the campus of Grand Valley State University.

Reeths-Puffer finished with a team score of 373, which was 10 shots better than they shot on the same course just four days ago.

Senior Paige Anderson shot her best round of the young season with a 75, which was good for second place among individuals. Her round included five birdies.

“Paige is a great golfer, but an even better person,” Rocket coach Matt Pallett said. “She continues to be a great teammate. Although she shot a great round, she was more interested in how her team did. She continues to be a great leader for this team.”

Junior Rowan Bluhm shot a solid 95 and was second on the team. Freshman Sophia McCollum shot a 96 and junior Avery Luna had a 107. Abby Haak shot a 123.

“Rowan and Sophia shot solid rounds today,” Pallett said. “They are playing better golf than what their final scores have been showing. Both of them tend to have a few bad holes each round. Once they eliminate that, their scores will lower.”

The Rockets begin conference play on Tuesday at Muskegon County Club with a league jamboree.
