GRAND HAVEN – The Grand Haven volleyball team breezed through their own End of Summer Bash on Friday. 

The Bucs went 5-0 and finished atop the standings.

In pool play, the Bucs took down Fremont (25-14, 25-16), Montague (25-14, 25-10) and East Grand Rapids (25-15, 25-15).

The Bucs moved on and defeated Leland (25-15, 25-16) in the semifinal round and Grand Rapids Catholic Central (25-19, 25-20) in the finals.

“We played really well all day long,” Grand Haven coach Aaron Smaka said. “We had contributions from so many of our athletes today. We were able to showcase our depth for sure.”

Coach Smaka earned his 600th career win with the victory over Leland.

Izzy Whittaker racked up 32 kills with four blocks and Mallory Woiteshek had 27 kills and seven blocks. Eden Smith had 20 kills while Melina Teunis and Nadia Prieditis added 15 and 14 kills, respectively.

Sara Webber contributed 60 assists and Leah Montgomery made 39 assists. Also, Taylor Smaka chipped in 43 digs and four aces.

Grand Haven (13-8) will be at Hudsonville on Thursday, Sept. 14.

Fremont will host Montague on Tuesday.
