TRAVERSE CITY – Grand Haven quarterback Xzavier Rodriguez had himself a day on Friday in leading the Bucs to a 27-14 victory over Traverse City West.

Not only did Rodriguez pass for 163 yards (14-for-19 passing), but he rushed 19 times for another 120 yards. He had one touchdown pass and two rushing touchdowns. Dean Mattson also scored a touchdown for the Bucs.

After a scoreless first quarter, the Bucs got on the board when Will Korenstra hauled in a 20-yard pass from Rodriguez, who also converted 3-of-4 extra points in the game.

Rodriguez had a 1-yard run to put the visitors up 14-0 After a Traverse City touchdown, Mattson scored from two yards out and Grand Haven took a 21-7 lead.

Traverse City West answered back on a touchdown run to make it 21-14.

An 18-yard touchdown run by Rodriguez capped the scoring.

Korenstra was the focus in the passing game with 10 receptions for 82 yards and a touchdown.

Grand Haven’s balanced attack included 163 yards passing and 138 on the ground.

Gus Abraham was in on nine tackles to lead the Buc defense.

Grand Haven hosts Grandville at 7 p.m. Friday.
