HART – It wasn’t quite the result Hart volleyball had hoped for when they hosted a tri-meet with Oakridge and White Cloud on Thursday. The Pirates came away with an 0-2 record on the day.

First up for Hart was a meeting with Oakridge.  The Pirates were within reach of a win in all three sets with the Eagles, but ended up only claiming victory in the second set with a 25-20 win. The Eagles won the first set 25-23 and the third set 15-11.

Things were even closer between Hart and White Cloud as both sets were nearly pushed into extra points. That was the case for the first set with the Pirates battling tough, falling just short in a 26-24 effort. The Indians also claimed the second set 25-23 for a sweep over Hart.

Leaders for the Pirates on the night included Kelsey Copenhaver (19 assists, 14 kills, eight digs, three blocks), Abby Hicks (13 digs, nine kills, two assists, one ace), Grace Gamble (seven digs, six kills, two blocks, two aces, one assist) and Reese Smith (22 digs, five kills, two aces).

The Pirates fell to 1-8-1 overall with the pair of losses and remained 0-2 in WMC Rivers play. Hart will host Hesperia on Tuesday for a crack at their first conference win.
