MANISTEE – It’s been years since the Hart boys’ soccer team lost by mercy rule, but that changed Monday evening when Manistee downed them, 8-0.
An aggressive high-pressure attack from the Pirates backfired early as they gave up three goals in the first half. Two additional goals came in that frame and were scored on a penalty kick and a poor passing decision. Keeper Miguel Escamilla made five saves before Hart made a move to JJ Bizon.
Down 5-0 after 40 minutes, the Pirates shifted their attention to the defensive side. Bizon could not react quick enough to a Mariners striker, conceding his first goal of the night. Manistee responded with another score soon after, netting a corner kick attempt.
Manistee’s all-district forward Jacob Sharpe ended the game with 14 minutes remaining, netting a heater past Bizon.
The Pirates record dips to 2-6 and will look to rebound against Reed City on Friday.
Manistee remains undefeated at 6-0-2 and will battle Ludington on Wednesday.
