FREMONT — Despite another slow start Tuesday night, the Ludington girls volleyball team rebounded after losing the first set and finished with a 3-1 victory over Fremont in the West Michigan Conference Lakes Division.

“I think the girls were feeling the pressure of this game keeping us undefeated,” said Ludington coach Liz Holden. “They snapped into their rhythm the second (set). When the girls are loud and excited, they play an entirely new game.

“They come together and start putting balls away. Fremont was scrappy and got a lot of our hits up, making our offense work hard for it.”

Fremont won the first set, 25-17 but the Orioles came back to take the next three sets 25-18, 25-23 and 25-21.

Maddy Vaara stepped up at the attack line and finished with 22 kills as well as 23 digs, three blocks and two aces. Jordyn Anderson had 36 assists with 15 digs, two kills and three blocks.

Karli Mesyar finished with 24 digs and two assists. Mia Pung had 15 digs, two aces and one assist. Mya Bryant contributed 11 digs, one assist and one ace.

Ashley McPike had nine kills, three digs and two blocks. Mia Voss had five kills, two blocks and one dig.

Taylor DeKuiper was one of the Pack’s leaders offensively with four service aces while Raylah Parker and Averi Zimmer added two apiece.

Maddie Baden served at 100 percent for the night. Mia Clemence had 14 kills and Kendall Barnhart finished with 12. DeKuiper and Taylor chipped in with eight apiece.

Barnhart finished with 21 assists while Lily VandenBerg added 18. Parker stepped up defensively with 25 digs, Barnhart had 15 and Avery Christoffersen finished with 13 and Kenzie Gugins added 10. DeKuiper had three blocks.

The Orioles improved to 32-6-2 on the season and 5-0 in the conference. Ludington closes out the conference slate next Tuesday hosting Whitehall.
