SCOTTVILLE —Ludington concluded the regular season with a winning record Friday night with a convincing 45-14 victory over inter-county rival Mason County Central. 

In fact, the two teams end the season with identical 5-4 records after the Orioles earned bragging rights for another season. 

The teams play in different divisions of the West Michigan Conference. The Orioles in the Lakes where they finished 3-3 while the Spartans were 4-2 in the Rivers. 

Ludington scored on its first six possessions of the game, leaving the Spartans in the unenviable position of trying to scramble back into the contest, which they never could. 

While the Orioles were clicking on offense, their defense was stifling, limiting the Spartans to just six points and building an insurmountable lead. 

Spartans quarterback Cameron Gunsell was an efficient 19-of-21 passing for 278 yards and four touchdowns. Gage Jones pulled in nine receptions for 155 yards and two scores. 

Joe Benz hauled in eight passes for 85 yards and two touchdowns, while Luke Hackert had three catches for 60 yards and one TD. 

Gunsell also led the team in rushing on the night with 101 yards and one TD on 18 carries. Benz contributed 14 yards on five attempts. 

Jonah Peterson was 6-for-6 on extra-point kicks and booted a 28-yard field goal.
