CALEDONIA – The Grand Haven volleyball team went 2-1 in a quad match on Saturday.

The Bucs opened with a tight loss to Grandville (25-16, 18-25, 21-25, 22-25), but bounced back to take down East Kentwood (25-21, 25-11, 25-20) and Caledonia (20-25, 25-18, 25-22, 25-16).

“We got better in each match as the day went on,” said coach Aaron Smaka. “We wish we would have started the day better against Grandville. We have to be ready to play every match. We finished the day playing really well.”

Mallory Woiteshek had 43 kills, 27 digs and six blocks. Izzy Whittaker threw in 31 kills, 26 digs and six blocks, while Eden Smith added 20 kills and six blocks.

Melina Teunis had 14 blocks and 12 kills. Taylor Smaka contributed 48 digs and 11 aces.

Leah Montgomery posted her 2,000th career assist and Sara Weber surpassed 1,300 with 83 assists on the day.

Grand Haven (30-15) will host Jenison and Hudsonville on Wednesday.
