WHITEHALL – The Whitehall volleyball team held on down the stretch against Montague in the Division 2 district opener on Monday.

The Vikings battled Montague in five close sets and came out on top, 28-26, 25-18, 20-25, 17-25 and 15-11.

Whitehall was led by Sidney Shepherd who hit the 2,000 assist milestone.

The Wildcats’ Maizie Collins had 17 kills, 16 digs and an ace, while Ava Plumford added 14 kills and a pair of blocks. Britta Johnson threw in 12 digs, nine kills and two aces.

Montague’s Jordan Netcott chipped in 15 digs, eight kills and two aces. Alissa Wynn had 21 digs, five assists and four aces.

Montague wrapped up the season with a record of 18-20-4.

Whitehall advances to Wednesday’s semifinal with Fremont for a 7 p.m. start.
