KALAMAZOO – The Muskegon Community College Lady Jayhawks used a balanced offensive attack in a 77-46 victory over Kalamazoo Valley Community College on Wednesday night.

The Jayhawks have been battling through illness and injuries over the last several weeks, but were able to come out on top in the non-league contest.

Muskegon CC (4-2) quickly jumped out to a double-figure lead in the opening quarter, 17-6. The Cougars outscored the Jayhawks by two points in the second quarter to trim the margin to 27-18 at the half.

The Lady Jayhawks owned the second half and turned the game into a rout. MCC outscored Kalamazoo Valley 50-28 after the break.

“I’m very excited for the win tonight,” Jayhawk coach Jason Cooper said. “You never know how a young team will respond from a loss.  They continually got better as the game went on. This is a game that we can build from.”

Four Jayhawks reached double figures, led by Ty’veonna Davis with a double-double of 20 points and 10 rebounds. She also had three assists and two steals. Arrionna Williams had 18 points, four rebounds and three steals. McKena Wilson chipped in 17 points and Ali Phillips had 14 points, five rebounds and three assists. Remi Sponseller had six points, four rebounds and three assists.

The Jayhawks will host Southwest Michigan College at 1 p.m. Saturday at Bartels-Rode Gymnasium.
