MUSKEGON – The Muskegon Community College Lady Jayhawks used a balanced offensive attack on Thursday night and routed the Cornerstone University JV team, 72-36.
The non-league game was played at Bartels-Rode Gymnasium.
“It was a solid win tonight,” Jayhawk coach Jason Cooper said. “I’m excited to see the team push through adversity and fatigue. We are improving each game.”
The Jayhawks’ balance featured seven players who scored at least seven points.
Leading the way was McKena Wilson with 14 points, three rebounds, three assists and two steals. She was one of four Lady Jayhawks to reach double figures in scoring.
Arrionna Williams added 13 points, seven rebounds, two assists and three steals, Maiya Hill had 12 points, a game-high 13 rebounds, two assists and two steals. Remi Sponseller also had a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds.
Hailey Carnes added eight points and five rebounds, Gaby Reeve had eight points and three rebounds and Ali Phillips had seven points and eight rebounds.
MCC fell behind 8-2 in the early minutes of the game before storming back and led 22-10 after the opening quarter. The lead grew in the second quarter in which MCC enjoyed an 18-13 scoring advantage and a 40-23 halftime lead.
In the second half, the Lady Jayhawks outscored Cornerstone 32-13.
The Jayhawks (3-1) will host St. Clair at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday with the MCC men’s game to follow.
Cornerstone fell to 0-4.
