SHELBY – Make it two weeks without the taste of victory for Shelby’s boys basketball team as the Tigers fell 50-46 to Manistee on Thursday.
Manistee had a successful night from 3-point territory as the Mariners seemed to hit deep shots at the right moments to keep Shelby in the rear view. Manistee took the lead early and never let it go.
That trend continued through three quarters without Manistee feeling threatened. The Tigers turned it up a notch in the third quarter to come within three points, but that was the closest they’d get to evening things up.
The Mariners enjoyed successful nights from all over with Tramel Caviness, Jaret Edmondson, Landin Sowa and Kaden Kott all making valuable contributions.
Shelby was led by Wyatt Dickman who put up a team-high 17 points to go along with seven rebounds. Phillip Hayes also scored double digits at 11 points, narrowly missing out on a double-double with nine rebounds.
Manistee (5-4, 1-3 WMC Lakes) rebounds from a tough conference loss to Whitehall with the win. The Mariners host Traverse City Christian on Friday, Jan. 5.
Shelby (1-7, 0-3 WMC Rivers) has now lost its sixth straight game and will hope the holiday break will allow them to regroup. The Tigers’ next game is set for Friday, Jan. 5 against Hesperia.
