CUSTER — Mason County Eastern ran into a balanced Brethren girls basketball team Thursday night in a West Michigan D League game and was overwhelmed, 57-8.

“They play a very good game with ball pressure defensively, and distribute the ball well on offense,” said Cardinals’ coach Jake Smith. “My girls fought hard every possession, but Brethren was just a much better team than us tonight. I was happy with the effort we put forward, but we still have many things to clean up before we get to the level at which we are capable of playing.”

Kennady Tyler scored three points for the Cardinals, while Brailyn Johnson and Kaden Robinson had two each. Eline Scholstad added a free throw.

Eastern (1-3, 1-2 WMD) is next scheduled to play Monday night at Cadillac against Heritage Christian in a non-conference matchup.

Stella Estes paced the Bobcats with 16 points and Alice Amstutz added 12.
