The Newaygo boys’ basketball team started off strong and kept the momentum in an 88-73 win over Central State Activities Association league foe Central Montcalm on Friday night.

The Lions jumped out to a 27-15 lead after the first quarter before extending their lead to 18 points going into the half.

Blake Kerr paced Newaygo with 22 points and seven rebounds, while Josiah Long added 16 points and six rebounds.

Caris Nelson chipped in with 16 points, nine rebounds and five assists for the Lions, and Logan Klomp contributed with 11 points, five rebounds and four assists.

Newaygo is now 3-2 overall and 2-0 in the CSAA, while Central Montcalm falls to 2-2 overall and 0-2 in the league.
