MUSKEGON – The Oakridge boys basketball team held off Montague in the West Michigan Conference-Lakes opener between the two teams on Friday evening.

The Eagles played strong down the stretch to top Montague, 62-56.

Oakridge jumped out to a 14-9 lead after the first quarter and held a 29-25 edge at halftime. The Eagles built on their lead after the third quarter, taking a 47-38 advantage into the final stretch.

Peyton Ruel led Oakridge with a game-high 20 points and six assists. Brody Jennings came through with 17 points while Evan Miller had 11 points and two assists.

Trevor Jones also paced the Eagles with 8 points and 8 rebounds, Evan Jozsa had six rebounds and Bryson Stephenson had 5 assists.

Owen Raeth led for the Wildcats with 17 points, while Isaiah Atchison and Kellen Francis posted 14 and 11 points, respectively. Jakob Heiss scored nine points.

Oakridge (2-0) will be at Holton on Tuesday.

Montague (1-1) is set to play host to Newaygo on Tuesday.
