WALKERVILLE — Pentwater opened its boys basketball season Friday night in Walkerville and came away with a 55-36 West Michigan D League win.

The two teams spent the first half trading baskets, and the Falcons managed to get the last word to take a two-point lead over Walkerville at the intermission.

After making some adjustments during the break, Pentwater enjoyed more success in the second half fueled by the production of Will Werkema-Grondsma and Jonny Arnouts.

Mikey Carlson crashed the boards aggressively, and Nathan Macher assisted in containing Walkerville’s post players inside. It all led to the Falcons boosting the lead to 10 points.

Trey Johnson pumped in 21 points to lead Pentwater. Werkema-Grondsma had 11 points, 12 rebounds and three assists. Carlson also scored 11 points, grabbed 16 boards and had two steals.

Arnouts contributed eight points, six rebounds, five steals and three assists. Abram Kieda had four points and three rebounds and Lucas Grondsma had four rebounds.
