PENTWATER — Showing little rust from an extended Christmas break, the Pentwater boys basketball team crushed Manistee Catholic Central, 81-29, in the West Michigan D League.

It didn’t hurt that the Falcons were playing on their home court before with a nice crowd on hand, and neither did the fact that their defense was firing on all cylinders right off the bat.

And that defensive pressure ignited a strong and devastating transitional offensive attack, and permitted the Falcons to mount a huge lead at the half.

Jonny Arnouts and Trey Johnson caught fire early and never cooled down, with Arnouts finishing the night with 17 points, five assists, two steals and three rebounds. Johnson shared the scoring lead with 17 points and added five rebounds and four steals.

But the Falcons had a number of players enjoy breakout games, including Nathan Macher with his first double-double on 10 points and 13 rebounds.

Pentwater ran its current winning streak to three straight, improving to 6-1 overall and 6-0 in the league. The Falcons host White Cloud in non-conference action Thursday night.
