WALKERVILLE — Bear Lake came into Friday night’s game undefeated, but Walkerville spoiled the streak with a 47-35 victory at home in the West Michigan D League.
Zeontae De La Paz dominated the area inside the paint and was a defensive monster for the Wildcats, while Collin Chase led the scoring and also passed off for four assists.
Bear Lake opened the game with a 9-5 lead at the end of the first quarter; but, encouraged by their home fans, Walkerville bounced back for a 17-8 explosion in the second and a 22-17 lead at the half.
Then the momentum swung the other way, as the Lakers enjoyed a 12-6 advantage in the third period and a 29-28 edge to end the third. The Wildcats pulled the game out with a 17-8 fourth quarter.
Collins was the Wildcats’ leading scorer with 17 points. De La Paz added 12 points and a whopping 22 rebounds.
With its second straight win, Walkerville improves to 2-2 on the season and 2-1 in the league. The Wildcats travel to Holton for a non-conference contest on Monday.
