WHITE CLOUD — White Cloud opened the girls basketball season with a resounding 50-9 non-conference win over Mason County Eastern Monday night.

The game was played on the Indians’ court.

“Going into this game, we made it our mission to hustle hard, create turnovers and protect the ball,” said Indians coach Caleb Wilk. “Mission accomplished. We rocked it for all four quarters, bagging a whopping 31 steals and keeping our turnovers under 10.

“Our seasoned vets, all six seniors, set the pace tonight. It was a true team effort, and everyone pitched in.”

The Cardinals struggled with White Cloud’s quickness according to Coach Jake Smith.

In addition to forcing over 30 turnovers, Smith said the Indians forced the Cardinals into some poor shots as well.

“For the first game of the season, I thought we were a step behind,” he said. “We have to find our legs, but we will improve as the season goes forward.”

Jaden Gomez scored 14 points to lead the Indians, while Kadence Nickloff added 13 and Brooke Ringler chipped in 12.

Kennady Tyler had eight points for the Cardinals.
