MONTAGUE – The Whitehall girls basketball team narrowly escaped with a victory against Montague on Friday evening.

The Vikings edged out the Wildcats 37-35 for the WMC-Lakes win.

The Wildcats held a lead through the first three quarters and went into the final quarter up, 31-28. The Vikings cracked down the defense and capitalized with a 9-4 fourth-quarter scoring advantage.

“The girls battled hard tonight,” said Montague coach Jess DeBruin. “The second half just didn’t go our way and we couldn’t get the ball in the basket.” 

Addilyn Peterson led the Wildcats with 10 points, while Addison Pranger scored nine points. Ella King contributed five points. 

Whitehall (4-8, 2-4) is set to host Newaygo on Monday.

Montague (2-9, 2-4) will be at Oakridge on Monday for a conference game.
