The Fruitport boys’ basketball team fell just short of a comeback win on Friday in a 63-58 loss to Hamilton in an O-K Blue game.

The Trojans trailed 19-16 at the end of the first quarter, 33-27 at halftime and 47-35 through three quarters of play.

Fruitport outscored the Hawkeyes 23-16 during the final quarter, but couldn’t quite complete the comeback.

DayDay Williams led the Trojans with 17 points, while Ryan Bosch added 16 and Hudson Hazekamp chipped in with 11.

“I am proud of this group for fighting back late in the game and almost completing a pretty amazing comeback,” said Fruitport coach Steve Erny. “Down 17 with 2:50 left in the game, with three starters fouled out and a fourth starter home sick, for us to cut the lead all the way down to two points near the end shows something about our team.”
