SHELBY – Monday night’s contest between Shelby and Fruitport Calvary Christian came down to the wire. The Eagles scored the game’s final points with 30 seconds remaining to come away with a 52-50 win.

Leading the way for the Eagles was Bradley Richards with 26 points.

The Eagles and Tigers were neck and neck the entire game, keeping things interesting up until the waning moments of the fourth quarter.

Shelby owned a narrow one-point lead in the game’s final moments before Calvary knocked down a triple to get on top. The Tigers held for the game’s final shot, missing on a three-pointer of their own as time expired.

“We are very proud of our boys. They just kept moving on to the next play and found a way to pull it out,” Calvary coach Brad Richards said. “Shelby played very hard on their parents’ night and it was a back-and-forth game the whole way.”

Besides Richards with a double-double that also included 11 rebounds. Quinn Swanson added 14 points and six rebounds while Sam Zelenka had 10 points, eight assists and six rebounds.

Shelby’s Phillip Hayes chipped in 17 points for the Tigers while Treyjin Waller notched 11 points.

The Tigers (2-10, 1-5 WMC Rivers) failed to keep the ball rolling after winning their first game in more than a month last week against Holton. Shelby will travel to Muskegon on Tuesday for a meeting with Orchard View.

Calvary (7-3) have built themselves a nice record off non-conference meetings and will hope to continue that momentum into their first Alliance League contest with Grand Rapids Wellspring Prep on Wednesday.
