WALKERVILLE — It was back and forth early, but then Hesperia blew open the game and claimed a 69-50 victory over the Walkerville Wildcats on Tuesday night.

Leading only 16-12 after one, the Panthers picked up the pace and outscored the Wildcars, 30-15 in the second and built a commanding 46-27 at the half.

Although the Wildcats never gave up, they couldn’t overcome that deficit and were outscored 13-10 in the third period as Hesperia took a 59-37 lead.

Collin Chase had a big night for the Wildcats with 30 points, five assists, four steals and five rebounds. Connor Shafer added seven points, and Zeontae De La Paz hauled down 11 rebounds, had four steals and four blocked shots.

Walkerville fell to 5-6 with its second straight loss, and the Wildcats are next scheduled to host Marion in a West Michigan D League game Friday night.

Hesperia improved to 6-7 overall with its second straight win, and the Panthers will next take to the court Friday night at Orchard View.
